Introduction to Project Orion II

Project Orion II - Rovering with Turtles
is the 4th Scouts of the World Award (SWA) Voluntary Service Project of the SWA Singapore Base.

The 2nd installment of this project will be led by 9 youths from Singapore and they will return to Setiu, Terengganu, where the pioneer team had left their legacy a year ago.

The primary aim of the team would be the conservation of sea turtles, but that would not be their only contribution during the project duration of 26th June to 10th July. The 9 passionate youths will also be involved in mangrove replanting, repair work for the villagers and WWF info centre and English and conservation awareness education for the children.

Kuala Baru Night Patrol Day 2 - WooT!! Theory proven RIGHT!!

Woo.. second night patroling at Kuala Baru. The first night the Ming Xian, Chow Wee, Jason and Jia Wei team manage to recover 2 clutches of eggs and no terrapin seen. This make quite worried as Ming Xian went before my team. Remember the previous post that when she went to the night patrol, the green turtle were not seen laying eggs on the beach for 3 days. Thus we tested out this theory again:

if (Ming Xian go patrol) = no turtles seen
if (Guys go patrol) = Turtles seen
Theory proven, the team of guys went and we see 3 Terrapin and recover 5 clutches of eggs.

we were split into teams of 2 for the patrol Calvin and I were accompany by Abang B we alight at the mid-point of the stretch of Kuala Baru beach. How the first team identify the mid-point where we park the boat is by the marker indicated below.

""Here you go guys!! A snap shot for the poor girl.""
The prints left behind by the Terrapin does look cute. the Prints were not very visible from far, if Abang B did not spot it I might miss the chance of getting a glimpse on the Terrapin.

A shot of a precise Terrapin egg find by Abang B and Ashraf.

That's all folks stay tune for more updates.
